About the project

A new archaeology museum in Leceia, conceived to complement the existing archaeological site centred on the discoveries of the Castro of Leceia.

The building is configured as a constructed volume set against the site’s topography, organising a sequence of approach and descent that operates as an introduction to the visit. Access is established at elevation 112.00, near the square of the Church of Our Lady of Leceia, with the aim of defining a new centre within the settlement.

The volume projects to the east, taking advantage of the dominant visual axis over the Barcarena stream valley.

The route unfolds as a gradual engagement with the visitor, in which the descent is structured by a system of walls that progressively constructs a visual enclosure leading to the physical entrance of the building.

This system is defined by planar elements and a structure of slender concrete fins, which operate externally as a pergola and internally as support and light control for the zenithal illumination provided by a continuous system of glass skylights.
