About the project

The project defines the strategy of incorporating a museum structure into the old market in Vila Velha de Sintra.

The exhibition system is built as a dynamic structure that presents the collection in a non-linear way, allowing the viewer to read across the objects on display.

This idea of genesis is materialised through a system of supports for pieces on horizontal planes, which formally refer to an organic structure, a metaphor for nature, the foundation of all the elements that make up the exhibition. The foundations of this exhibition will be two display walls that spatially organise the permanent exhibition room, a 400m2 nave. This system is supported by central exhibition elements that house larger pieces and multimedia elements.

On the upper floor, a modular system will be developed to support temporary exhibitions and other events. This system is made up of a single fibreglass module that will be used for a variety of purposes, from building a small amphitheatre, through exhibition elements to simple seating.
