An urban regeneration project developed through the
construction of a single building intended to accommodate
learning spaces and co-work, meeting rooms, administrative
support offices and a restaurant. The intervention forms part
of a set of three operations promoted by the Municipality of
Óbidos aimed at territorial requalification through anchor
buildings and new programmes of collective use: the co-work
and cultural centre in Gaeiras; the Praça da Criatividade, in the
Arrifes area adjoining the walls of Óbidos; and the community
centre and auditorium in A-da-Gorda.
The geometry of the intervention is defined with the objective
of transforming the former Largo de São Marcos — a residual
urban space surrounded by an amorphous fabric of small, low-
quality buildings — into a legible public square: Praça de São
Marcos.
The building is configured as a hybrid between a retaining wall
with a carefully controlled texture, constructed from precast
concrete elements, a partially buried structure, and a triangular
volume clad in a semi-transparent skin of white klinker brick.
This triangular volume, which accommodates the restaurant
programme, is the element that formally defines the new
square, establishing it as a new point of centrality within the
settlement.

Projeto de regeneração urbana desenvolvido a partir da
construção de um único edifício destinado a acolher espaços
de aprendizagem e co-work, salas de reuniões, gabinetes de
apoio administrativo e um restaurante. A intervenção integra-se
no conjunto de três operações promovidas pelo Município de
Óbidos para a requalificação do território através de edifícios
âncora e de novos programas de uso coletivo: o co-work com
centro cultural em Gaeiras; a Praça da Criatividade, na área dos
Arrifes, contígua à muralha de Óbidos; e o conjunto centro
comunitário / auditório em A-da-Gorda.
A geometria da intervenção é definida com o objetivo de
transformar o antigo Largo de São Marcos — um espaço urbano
residual, envolvido por um tecido amorfo de pequenas
construções sem qualidade — numa praça urbana reconhecível,
a Praça de São Marcos.
O edifício configura-se como um híbrido entre um muro de
suporte, com uma textura cuidadosamente controlada
construída a partir de peças de betão pré-moldado, uma
construção parcialmente enterrada, e um corpo triangular
revestido por uma pele semi-transparente em tijolo klinker
branco.
Este corpo triangular, que alberga o programa do restaurante, é
o elemento que define formalmente a nova praça, afirmando-a
como um novo ponto de centralidade na povoação.
