About the project

The project consists of the extension of a small house in Bairro da Encarnação. The design departs from a fundamental geometric element of the existing building — the roof — extending it to establish a geometric continuity that reinterprets its original logic.

The extension takes the form of a quasi-canopy element: autonomous in its expression, yet simultaneously connected to the pre-existing structure. This ambivalent condition — between assertion and continuity — is deliberately held in balance, allowing the new construction to assert itself without subsuming the original house.

The arch, stripped of its structural role, operates as the framing of a new façade. Rather than a symbolic gesture, it functions as a device that clarifies and asserts the extension, claiming presence within a context marked by repetition and formal neutrality.
