About the project

Lisbon Architecture Triennale

Shed 76 is an exhibition device developed for the third Lisbon Architecture Triennale, curated under the theme “Close, Closer.” The project is conceived as an active spatial structure, articulating exhibition, circulation and occupation.

The exhibition unfolds in two complementary moments. In the first, twenty cultural figures were invited to select an everyday object with which they maintain a privileged relationship. In the second, twenty architects, designers and artists used these objects as starting points for the creation of new works, establishing a process of reinterpretation and displacement.

The exhibition device is formed by a system of walls cut by circular geometries, operating simultaneously as display surfaces and circulation elements. Rather than compartmentalising space, these walls guide visitors through a continuous sequence in which viewing and movement become inseparable.

The structure is deliberately flexible, allowing the parallel installation of two exhibition moments accompanied by a programme of public talks. The device operates as a temporary infrastructure, accommodating different configurations within a consistent spatial logic.

The project draws a direct reference to historical challenges to conventional exhibition design, particularly Frederick Kiesler’s Art of This Century Gallery (New York, 1942). As in this precedent, space is conceived as an active component in shaping the relationship between object, visitor and movement.
